Degree in American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreting, certified ASL Interpreter credentials, and 1+ year of experience as an ASL Interpreter in educational settings. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered.

A qualified Sign Language Interpreter is needed to provide instructional support for an 8th-grade student at a middle school located in Katy, TX. This role requires expertise in American Sign Language (ASL) and experience working with students who use assistive hearing devices. The position is a contract assignment for the remainder of the current school year and summer, including compensatory services and planning for the following school year.

Key Responsibilities:

• Interpret ASL during instructional times for an individual student in a behavioral class.
• Support communication for a student using Cochlear implants, hearing aids, and an Assistive Listening Device (ALD).
• Adapt interpretation to accommodate the student's unique communication needs, including unintelligible speech.
• Collaborate with teachers and support staff to facilitate effective learning environments.
• Maintain professionalism and confidentiality while working onsite during school hours (approximately 6.5 hours daily).
• Provide services excluding non-instructional periods such as lunch, arrival, and dismissal.

Qualifications:

• Must hold at least one of the four nationally recognized Sign Language Interpreter certifications.
• Proven experience interpreting in educational settings, preferably middle school level.
• Familiarity with assistive hearing technology in classroom environments.
• Ability to support students with behavioral challenges.
• Effective communication and teamwork skills.
