Eckerd College is currently hiring for the position of Assistant Director of Athletic Communications to join our Athletics team at our waterfront property along the Boca Ciega Bay in St. Petersburg, Florida, in our relationship-focused community. The Eckerd College Tritons are members of NCAA Division II and the Sunshine State Conference with 16 teams competing in a variety of varsity sports.

As Assistant Director of Athletic Communications, you will assist the Director with managing branding, communications, and media relations for the Eckerd Athletics Department. Primary areas of responsibility for the position include statistics, social media, creative content, game operations, and website management. The ideal candidate will bring strong creativity and organizational skills to enhance the visibility and reputation of Eckerd Athletics while maintaining brand consistency and supporting the broader mission of the College.

The Assistant Director should possess an advanced ability to create engaging digital content including graphics and videos to grow the department’s social media presence. Knowledge of NCAA statistical rules and guidelines for Eckerd’s sponsored sports and AP style for sports writing is required for this position. The incumbent must be able to perform frequent after-hours work on nights and weekends.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with creative content and branding efforts for Eckerd athletics including graphic design (digital and print), photography, and video production.
  • Assist with gameday operations including set-up, video stream, event staffing and tear-down.
  • Assist in the operation of the day-to-day coverage of Eckerd’s 14 intercollegiate athletic programs
  • Write game recaps, game previews and feature stories for assigned sports.
  • Serve as official statistician for assigned sports and disseminate postgame statistics files to appropriate parties.
  • Assist with managing the main Eckerd Athletics social media accounts and providing support for athletic coaches in the management of their team accounts.
  • Assist with information management on EckerdTritons.com including staff and athlete bios, season schedules and results, game stories, program records and photos.
  • Assist with pregame and in-game promotion efforts for home athletic events.
  • Assist with video production of live streams
  • Recruit, hire and supervise student workers and interns.
  • Lead Eckerd Athletics video highlights and other special video projects.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree (communications, journalism, or sports management preferred); 1-2 years of relevant experience in a college or university athletic communications office (work as a student assistant is acceptable). The equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted in lieu of a degree.
